Sitting in a pleasant mountain landscape, the architectural wonder keeps the world's only parietal relic of Buddha.

Jiming Temple 鸡鸣寺

Jiming ("Rooster crowing") Temple was first constructed in 527 and has been destroyed and reconstructed many times. The existing temple was initially constructed during the Ming Dynasty in 1387.


Admission is 10 RMB and the temple is open daily 7:00-17:30. We recommend budgeting an hour. Walking distance to the Ming City Wall Museum and Xuanwu Lake Park.

0.6 kilometer-long moderately trafficked out and back trail that overlooks the Xuanwu Lake. Features many modern Instagram-able installations (see Ian's photo).


Admission is 30 RMB and the museum is open 8:00-17:30 daily. We recommend budgeting an hour.

Xuanwu Lake Park 玄武湖公园

Beautiful urban park located in city center. Perfect for any water sports or a leisure walk/run.


No admission needed. Open 5:00-22:00 daily. We recommend budgeting two hours.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum 中山陵

Dr. Sun Yat-sen is considered the father of modern China. He fought against the imperial Qing government and founded the Republic of China (now Taiwan). The mausoleum is situated at the foot of Purple Mountain.


Free admission but reservation required. Open 8:00-17:00 daily.

Hongshan Forest Zoo 红山森林动物园

Great for children. Admission is 40 RMB for adults and 20 RMB for kids. Open 8:30-16:30 daily. We recommend budgeting half a day.

Grand Baoen Temple 大报恩寺

The literal translation of the "Great Bao'en" Temple is the "great temple of repaying kindness". The original pagoda was constructed in the 15th century during the Ming Dynasty. The modern reconstruction boasts a unique architectural style, particularly in its glazed pagoda.


Open 8:30-20:00 daily. Admission is 90 RMB and tickets are available on site with a valid ID. We recommend budgeting two to three hours.

Presidential Palace 总统府

Presidential office for the Republic of China until the capital was relocated to Taipei in 1949. Close to the famous 1912 Street, which offers a plethora of cultural experiences and turns into a vibrant bar street at night.
